Love from Rainy Dawg Radio!

Check out this blog post from Sam Mouser, the Music Director of UW’s Rainy Dawg Radio!  We are excited that “Whale Song” made the cut and is on the list of “Best Songs of 2010”!  Here is what he had to say:

“Whale Song” is an entirely unobtrusive title for such a dazzling track, and although Seattle’s Lemolo might not be on your radar yet, they’re sure to be there soon. Oceanographic lyrics, overcast keys, and Meagan Grandall’s lingering vocals help make “Whale Song” the aural equivalent of a ferry ride across Puget Sound. The track’s production is spacious, layering reverb-drenched guitar and vocal harmonies over a simple casiotone drum pattern, and its b-side, as if to punctuate the mini-release’s theme, is a piano-and-drums-driven nocturne called “Open Air.” Listen to that, as well as their debut EP, Lounge Light, over on their Bandcamp, and then go see them open for the Head and the Heart at Neumos on January 14th.

Happy New Year!

The Singles Record – Lyrics

“Whale Song”

We were out watching for whales, all of us
It started to rain with the hail, down our love
We were out walking the dolls, all of us
The rabbits wore dresses and all talked a lot

She looks up

You were just dancing to sing, all along
We tied all our wrists up with string, the color was
You’re planning your parties for beaches, summer’s warm
But it was your birthday last week and the week before

She sees the world the way she wants, oh the way she wants
She sees the world the way she wants, oh the way she wants

“Open Air”

You need open air, all this open air
We had open air, so much open air

And you put your body out my window like
You put your body out my window like

You need open air, all this open air
We had open air, so much open air

And you put your body out my window like
You put your body out my window

With the top down, we were headed South with the top down
All the way East in our nightgowns
All the way West with our knife out
Headed North with the top down, with our knife out
With our knife out

Seattle Weekly Article

Check out our first bit of press from the Seattle Weekly!  We made sure to grab about seven or eight copies.  :)

“Meagan Grandall and Kendra Cox’s breathy, downtempo folk project Lemolo is pretty and sleek — sort of how the way a nice silk dress feels between your fingertips. Though Lemolo is a young band with one single (“Whale Song”/”Open Air”) and a few kinks to work out, any snags in this particular outfit are barely noticeable when you look at the whole picture. Piano, percussion and guitar serve as mere backdrop to Grandall’s moody, sumptuous lead vocals. For the most part, this is quiet-time music, but when Grandall surprises you and belts it out, the ambient, Beach-House sound gives way to a titillating pop sensibility that’s hardly fit for naptime. Band of the Week: Lemolo >> Friday, November 12, 2010

“This is a band that I saw open up for Wakey!Wakey! at the Sunset Tavern. I walked away utterly impressed by their talent, poise and songwriting skills. The band was mature in a way you do not find in local “waiting to hit it big” indie type bands. I left the tavern with a strong sense that I will be seeing more and more of this lovely duo. Now, sadly, they have not made the instant impact I had expected, but hopefully, they will get some more attention, and actually make the noise they deserve.

The Civil Wars are playing a show at the Tractor Tavern in December that I am super excited about. Suprisingly, their opening act is currently listed as “TBD”. I emailed the band and asked them who they had lined up, cause I love me an opening act, and was told they were still looking to fill the spot. I emailed them back and urged them to snatch Lemolo up asap. I really hope they let these ladies join them on the bill, as it would be the perfect pairing, and I would love to see them again.”
